I think the part in the first part of the novel when the author uses the most pathos is during the separate excerpt of a previous comic the author made about his mother. I think it's importance can be argued just because the author felt the need to add it to the book rather than just mentioning it. I think it gives an insight to the internal struggles of the author as well as the conflicts he has had to face concerning his father and the death of his mother. I also think the style in which it is written is signifiant because he doesn't use mice anymore instead the comic looks more realistic and abstract. For me the emotions were strongly conveyed during this portion of the novel.
