Blog Post 13
In my opinion, Maus is more similar to Jonathan Safran Foer's Eating Animals in the respect of evoking the audience emotions. But for the rhetoric logo technique, it is more similar with Nicholas Carr's The Shallows. Both of Maus and Eating Animals successfully create different environment for audience to make them feel or understand some points. For example, through exclamatory sentence and questions, audiences have deep impressions and their emotions are simultaneously assimilated. Then audiences may say "Yes, I know". But I think Maus is easier to approach this goal. Because effect of visualization helps the author to express more directly and vividly, especially to describe a story. However, compared with The Shallows, Mau and Eating Animals don't have rational and professional performance enough. In The Shallows, Nicholas Carr supplies with a lot of scientific evidences to convince the audience. And at the same time, his own experience about computer and internet also cause the sympathy from the audiences who have the similar experiences in life. But I don't think the charming of Maus is reduced by this reason. It is a story and the author selected humanizing mouse to tell this story. If the author added some evidences which occur in history or society directly, the whole story will be destroyed. And the mouse characters make audiences to view the story in terms of spectators.
