In this advertisement, Crest states that the only reason that you should brighten your teeth, an act associated with beauty, is in order to get a good husband, plunging us back into the medieval ages, where the only goal in a woman's life is to aspire to get a good husband. Crest shows a nice, fair-skinned woman and a nice fair-skinned man, where the girl is instantly attracted to the man. The ad then shows a montage, presumably in her mind, where she plots out her entire life, following the typical fall in love, get married, have 2.01 children, otherwise called a picture perfect happy ending. This goes back to what Kilbourne brings up, where a woman is totally demoted to be subservient to the man who she is trying to please. This type of thought has been forced upon women for literally thousands of years, and to see it being perpetuated continually within this day and age is really quite sickening to women everywhere. Kilbourne mentions that in today's advertisements, there are an astonishing amount of ads that were used to demote women to a subservient state of mind, and in doing so, the women leave the ad believing that their chief purpose in life is to please men. If a woman is to whiten her teeth, Kilbourne would argue that the only reason she would need to whiten her teeth would be for her and herself only. The reason she would whiten her teeth would be simply for her own satisfaction, and for no one else's, and for certainly not a man she sees in a random restaurant.
