In my mind, the author of the book “Eating Animals”
tried to reveal the relationship between human beings and animals. And the most
attractive thing is his specific angle, animals are the food for humans. As we
know, there are a lot of writers focus on the same topic and majority of them
just pay attention to one aspect, such as animal protection, endangered species
and ethics. Comparing with those common views, the author thought the problem
deeply and complicatedly. History, family, different cultures and his own
experience were included in his book and these elements were applied to analyze
the social reasons that why people eat animals. For the pathos, the author was
very good at leading the emotion of audience. His own experience made the
audience believe that his statements and opinions were reasonable based on the
real life. Moreover, the description of details, like how people catch fish, also
left impression in audiences’ heart to emphasize the different attitudes for
animals in different culture. For the ethos, the reference of history in the
book also gave the audience a feeling that the author was familiar with this
topic and had a strong background. For the logos, for example, the author
referred to the different cultures together. That generated an obvious contrast
for the audience.
